Job Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Finance / Accounting
Reports To: Accounting Manager / Controller / CFO
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to take ownership of the general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting processes. In this role, you will ensure the accuracy of financial records, improve internal controls, and provide critical analysis to support business decisions. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to mentor junior staff.
Key Responsibilities1. Financial Close & Reporting (60%)
- Manage the full cycle of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Prepare and review complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
- Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and variances; provide detailed variance analysis against budgets and prior periods.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements (P&L;, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) in accordance with GAAP.
- Assist with the preparation of external audit schedules and liaise with external auditors.
2. General Ledger & Account Management (20%)
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and integrity of data.
- Review and approve work performed by Staff Accountants/AP/AR (if applicable).
- Monitor fixed assets, depreciation, and lease accounting (ASC 842).
- Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
3. Internal Controls & Process Improvement (10%)
- Identify weaknesses in current accounting processes and implement robust internal controls to mitigate risk.
- Document and update accounting policies and procedures.
- Participate in ERP system upgrades and implementations; assist in testing and user acceptance.
4. Tax & Compliance (5%)
- Assist with the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns (sales/use, property, income).
- Ensure compliance with local, state,
and federal government reporting requirements.
5. Strategic Support (5%)
- Provide financial analysis and insights to department heads to aid in operational decision-making.
- Assist the FP&A; team with budgeting and forecasting as needed.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Certification: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) strongly preferred; or CPA-track (actively pursuing).
- Experience: 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience (mix of public accounting and industry preferred).
- Industry: [Optional: e.g., Tech, Manufacturing, Non-Profit] experience is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Deep understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, Macros).
- Experience with major ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics). [Specify your system].
