In this VAT Manager role, you will lead Italian and cross-border VAT initiatives for Amazon Stores in Italy and contribute to Pan-EU Retail projects. You’ll provide expert VAT guidance to support legislative compliance, tax planning, and complex controversy matters, while engaging senior stakeholders across tax, business, legal, and finance. You will manage relationships with the Italian Tax Authority and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable new business launches and ongoing operations.

- Provide in-depth VAT technical guidance on Italian and cross-border matters for business initiatives and contemplated transactions.
- Support complex audit and controversy projects with sound judgment under tight timelines.
- Assist the VAT Compliance Team on strategic VAT topics (not day-to-day compliance).
- Coordinate planning, real-time communication, and delivery of tax-related projects with business partners.
- Draft documentation supporting analyses, decisions, and compliance conclusions.
- Manage audit and controversy matters, including proactive engagement with tax authorities and response preparation.
- Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and Accounting to support new launches and Pan-EU operations.
- Communicate complex VAT concepts effectively to non-tax stakeholders through written and verbal channels.
- Experience in tax advisory (excluding compliance)
- Experience in international indirect tax planning with knowledge of tax laws in other countries
- Advisory experience in a large accounting/consultancy/law firm/tax authority or in-house
- Experience communicating with diverse stakeholders including leadership
- Experience analyzing statutes, regulations, and case law to extract data and make recommendations
- Fluency in Italian (read/write/speak)
- Detail-oriented, organized, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills under tight deadlines
- Self-motivated, hardworking, able to thrive in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment
- Familiarity with tax tech tools, including generative AI tools
- Excellent communication with peers and leadership
