Your impact
We are currently seeking an exceptionally motivated Senior Estimating Engineer to be located in our Milan, Italy office, reporting directly to the Estimating Manager.
We seek a talented Estimator at a Senior level with experience working on large‑scale industrial projects such as pharmaceutical or building projects. Experience with EPCM (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management) projects is desirable.
As part of the estimating team, you will be responsible for delivering estimating and cost engineering services across a wide range of projects and business units. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of estimating principles and cost engineering practices, with proven experience developing estimates using both top‑down and bottom‑up methodologies. This experience should encompass projects at the feasibility, concept, and basic design stages.
Experience in quantity surveying is considered desirable and will further strengthen your suitability for the role.
As a Cost Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately estimating and calculating construction and manufacturing costs in the pharmaceutical and building industrial construction sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and implement estimating procedures and best practices, ensuring consistent application across all estimating activities
- Standardize project estimating methodologies, tools, templates, and document management systems, establishing a consistent Jacobs approach across the organization
- Lead the development and preparation of project estimates in collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams, including the coordination of estimate reporting and deliverables
- Develop and execute estimating strategies and plans tailored to project requirements
- Review and validate priced material take‑offs in partnership with process and engineering discipline leads, while working closely with Project Managers and Project Engineers
- Prepare and compile project cost estimates in line with approved estimating plans, Jacobs and client procedures, and AACE International recommended practices
- Complete estimate risk analysis and contingency calculations, running or supporting client Monte Carlo simulation sessions on the estimate using @risk software
- Present and review estimates with project team and senior management and with clients. Work independently in accordance with established procedures
- Consolidate benchmark information in a centralized and traceable location, from feasibility study to outturn costs, to ensure that all project learnings are captured and incorporated and project commencement and completion
- Ensure that systems are in place and effective, and that all estimating requirements of Project Management and the Client are being satisfied
- Strive to improve templates and processes for estimate delivery, leveraging the IT tools available such as @risk, Excel and other tools to improve the productive delivery of the estimating function
- Support project management and engineering team throughout the detailed design and procurement contracting to track costs variation and support change management
- Continuously review national and worldwide recognized sources for cost market trends, estimating procedures, AI use on costing etc
- Develop man‑hour/fee proposals for estimating tasks
Qualifications
- Fluency in English and Italian
- More than 10 years experience in estimating,
project engineering or quantity surveying within the life science/chemical construction industry required. Experience on a project construction site is a plus
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
- Strong analytical skills with a high attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Proactive in identifying and escalating potential issues
- Confident presenter, able to clearly communicate estimate outcomes and recommendations to Jacobs and client management
- Well‑organized and skilled in planning, coordination, and facilitation
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build strong relationships across project teams, business units, global offices, clients, and partners

Salary and Working Conditions
The offer range for this position is €54,000.00 to €67,500.00 gross per year (or hourly equivalent if hired into an hourly role). The final salary within this range will be determined based on objective, gender‑neutral and job‑related criteria, such as relevant professional experience, skills, qualifications, the scope of responsibilities and the contracted working hours/work schedule.

The applicable National Collective Labour Agreement (CCNL) classification level for this position is CCNL Metalmeccanico, Level B3.
