Primary Responsibilities

Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting care and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important part of the store. Smile and greet customers, learn and use customers’ names whenever possible, and assist customers by escorting them to products, securing items out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, noting customer suggestions, and performing other tasks that enhance the shopping experience.

Answer the telephone promptly and provide helpful service to callers who need assistance. Work with co‑workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment. Handle inquiries that do not require a pharmacist’s expertise and judgment. Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests at the discretion of the supervising pharmacist and call doctor’s offices for refill prescriptions.

- Gather patient information required to prepare prescriptions and enter data into the computer.
- Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing, affixing labels, and preparing prescriptions for mailing.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims, file prescriptions after dispensing, and report medication errors to appropriate personnel.
- Order, check‑in, and stock pharmacy supplies, log invoices as necessary, and perform cash transactions.
- Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area.
- Assist with third‑party insurance billing and troubleshooting.
- Administer vaccines as allowed by law.

Secondary Responsibilities





Assist in other areas of the store as needed and perform other job‑related duties and special projects required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Logical or scientific thinking for problem solving, arithmetic calculations, composition of original correspondence, following technical manuals, increased interpersonal communication, and evaluation of technical data.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Working toward a licensed technician certification through a certified national program. Prior experience as a pharmacy clerk is preferred. Vaccination certification, if required by law, is required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to physically exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and negligible force constantly. Visual requirements include adequate vision at various distances and color vision. Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, listen, and perform repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Fast-paced retail environment with multiple simultaneous tasks such as filling scripts, answering telephone calls, and attending to customers. Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals and solvents, especially when compounding products and chemotherapy drugs.

Equipment Used

PC with pharmacy software and printer, cash register, C.A.R.S. ordering system, pharmacy balances, scanner, calculator, telephone, fax, and copier.

Confidentiality

Maintain confidentiality of customers’ private medical information in accordance with the HIPAA Act.

Contact

Daily contact with customers, general public, suppliers/vendors, and occasional contact with community, trade/professional organizations, and federal/state regulatory agencies.

Wage

Hourly starting wage ranges from $15.50 to $19.30, depending on experience.
