Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self‑motivated Network Planning & Design Engineer who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic, based in Genoa, Italy.

Mission

The role is for a Telecom Engineer to work on design and project implementation tasks of Telecommunication Systems such as radio (GSM‑R), Multi‑Service Network (IP, MPLS, SDH), Telephone System, Voice Recording System, Master Clock, Fiber Optic backbone and Public Information System.

Accountabilities

- Design the network architecture to fulfil contractual requirements.
- Develop technical design documentation for communication projects.
- Supplier management: prepare technical specifications, assess suppliers, conduct periodic meetings, verify design documents, supervise site activities (survey, test and commissioning, acceptance test, integration test).
- Interface management: maintain relationships with all project team members and formally manage related interfaces.
- Contract requirements management.
- Coordinate with engineering, bidding, sales, procurement, supply chain and project management for completion of all bids and projects.
- Develop a high‑level bill of materials defining typology, model, HW/SW configuration, and requested network management systems.
- Perform IP network testing, commissioning,



and troubleshooting on site and remotely.
- Maintain an action‑items list and produce effective reporting.

Required skills, knowledge, experience

- Knowledge of IP networking: LAN, WAN, layer 2 and layer 3.
- Basic capacity to configure layer 2 and layer 3 network equipment such as Cisco.
- Basic capacity to perform IP network troubleshooting on site and remotely.
- Knowledge of backbone transmission systems: IP/MPLS, MPLS/TP, SDH.
- Knowledge of principles of radio transmission systems.
- Knowledge of principles of optical fibre communication.
- At least 3 years experience in this role.

Desired skills

- Basic knowledge of VoIP telephone systems.
- Basic knowledge of radio systems: Wi‑Fi.
- Basic knowledge of master clock systems.
- Basic knowledge of voice‑recording system.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD design.

Education / Qualification

Master’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronic, Computer or Information Technology) or equivalent technical background.

Fluent English proficiency.

Benefits & Compensation

Salary (gross annual): €33,000 – €40,000. Applicable collective agreement: CCNL for private metalworking industry and plant installation, graded level B1, per classification regulation.
