The Role

We are seeking a proactive and well-networked Commissioning Editor to lead the development of Thematic Issues and Special Collections across science, technology, and medicine, as well as their subfields. The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding the editorial networks of Bentham journals (Hybrid & Open Access), commissioning high-impact content, and strengthening the journals’ global visibility and citation performance.

Key Responsibilities

- Identify, recruit, and onboard Guest Editors, Editorial Board Members, and leading authors for thematic issues.
- Proactively commission Thematic Issues and invited review articles aligned with emerging trends in the subject areas relevant to Bentham’s portfolio of journals.
- Develop and execute commissioning strategies to increase the number of submissions, quality, and impact.
- Work closely with Editors-in-Chief, Managing Editors, and Editorial Boards to ensure strategic alignment.
- Monitor scientific trends, competitor journals, and performance metrics to inform commissioning decisions.




- Collaborate with Marketing and Production teams to promote calls for papers and thematic issues.
- Represent the journal and publisher at conferences, webinars, and academic events as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach and commissioning activity using internal systems and CRM tools.

About You

- Experience in academic publishing, editorial development, or commissioning in the research industry.
- Background or strong familiarity with scientific and technical fields.
- Proven ability to build relationships with researchers, editors, and academic institutions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Strategic mindset with a data-driven approach to journal growth.
- Experience with thematic issues or special issues is highly desirable.
