PhD Student Position in Electroadhesion Tribology for Dexterous Soft Robotic Grippers
Joint position with Politecnico di Bari and in collaboration with EPFL.
Duration: 3 years. Main working place: Bari, Italy. Fully funded with a scholarship and research funds. You will spend 6 months visiting EPFL.
Your goal will be to create the next generation of dexterous soft grippers that can grasp delicate and flexible objects, with negligible energy consumption and requiring little control. By using mechanical intelligence, demanding control tasks such as force control, path planning, and precise positioning can be embedded into the gripper’s physical design. You will study the tribology of electro‑mechanical systems at the interface between the gripper and the object; use the new scientific insight to create novel architectures, select better materials; characterize the gripper and validate it with Omnigrasp’s industry customers.
Your activities will include conducting theoretical and experimental research, writing academic papers, presenting at international conferences, writing patents,



and supervising MSc students.
Requirements: Master’s degree in Engineering, Material Science, Physics or a related field; creativity and passion for innovation; fluency in English. Starting date: October 2022. Candidates who have lived abroad for more than two years may vantaggi from a tax exemption.
