Experteer Overview As a Senior Optical Engineer, you will lead optical system design for space-based instruments and ground telescopes, shaping high-performance imaging capabilities. You will work within the Telescopes Business Unit to ensure seamless integration with other subsystems and to drive testing and validation activities. This role combines hands‐on design with cross‐functional collaboration in a challenging space environment. You will contribute to cutting‐edge space instrumentation and telescope projects, making a tangible impact on mission success.
Responsibilities Lead design and optimization of optical systems for space-based instruments and ground telescopes
Perform detailed ray tracing, aberration analysis, and optimization to achieve high-performance imaging
Oversee optical system integration and testing to meet performance requirements
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure proper integration with other subsystems
Conduct performance analysis through simulations and modelling to predict and validate capabilities
Prepare design specifications, test plans, and analysis reports; present findings to teams and stakeholders
Mentor and guide junior engineers to foster a collaborative, innovative environment
Qualifications 8+ years of experience in optical design and engineering for space-based instruments
Proficiency in Zemax and CODE V and related simulation tools
Experience with ground-based telescope systems
Strong understanding of spaceborne instrumentation and space environment challenges
Experience with testing and validation of optical systems
Excellent communication skills and collaborative teamwork
