About the Role
Are you a strategic communicator who knows how to translate complex scientific research into high-impact narratives? We are looking for more than just a writer;
we need a
Senior Communications & Copywriting Specialist
to drive content strategy and science storytelling for our team in Ispra.
In this role, you will lead communication efforts by working closely with in-house scientists particularly those leading research in sustainability and natural resource management. You will shape the overall narrative strategy, identifying key stories behind published findings and turning them into clear, engaging content that reaches target audiences across social, digital, and institutional channels.
Key Responsibilities & Strategy
Communications & Content Strategy:
Drive the overall narrative approach to promote scientific research. Map out directorate strengths, upcoming studies, key events, and emerging trends to strategically align content across all channels.
Science Storytelling & Copywriting:
Collaborate directly with researchers to translate technical papers and complex findings into clear, accurate, plain-language copy tailored to diverse audiences.
LinkedIn & Directorate Visibility:
Craft and execute a compelling LinkedIn strategy to boost the directorate's public profile, pairing relatable copy with data visualizations and photography.
Website & Intranet Oversight:
Manage static public science communication pages and intranet news streams,
applying basic SEO techniques to optimize content reach.
Visual Content Production:
Produce supporting visual assets (infographics, short videos, flyers, brochures) using tools like Canva, Photoshop, or Illustrator, ensuring strict alignment with institutional branding.
Performance Analytics & Strategy Optimization:
Monitor monthly social and web performance data. Analyze trends to continuously adjust content strategy, refine formats, and manage audience engagement.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education:
Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 8 years of professional experience in communications strategy, copywriting, and public outreach, ideally within scientific, technical, or international policy environments.
Strong ability to translate complex scientific concepts into plain-language stories without losing technical accuracy.
Hands-on experience managing multi-channel digital communications (LinkedIn, web, intranet) and monitoring performance metrics.
Practical proficiency with design tools (Canva / Adobe Creative Suite) for creating supporting visual assets.
Excellent strategic mindset and interpersonal skills to build trust with senior scientists and communications stakeholders.
