Senior Technical Officer (Conservation & Sustainable Use Of PGRFA - Farmers' Rights)

In this role you will guide and support FAO’s ITPGRFA Secretariat in implementing the International Treaty, focusing on conserving and sustainably using Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and advancing Farmers’ Rights. You will lead technical work, coordinate with FAO units and partners, and develop capacity-building programs. Your work helps strengthen multilateral cooperation and policy guidance in biodiversity and food security. This is an opportunity to shape international policy and contribute to sustainable agri-food systems.

- Lead development, implementation and evaluation of technical issues for assigned programmes/projects, prioritizing actions and following up with stakeholders.
- Coordinate program reviews, assess trends, and contribute to impact evaluations or studies.
- Oversee preparation of written outputs (papers, analyses, sections of reports) and inputs to publications.
- Direct support for consultative meetings and conferences, including agenda topics,



participant identification, and document preparation.
- Manage outreach activities, design and deliver training workshops, and present topics to diverse audiences.
- Lead field missions and provide guidance to external consultants and government officials.
- Advise on policies and strategies, including national protocols and guidelines for FAO projects in the relevant domains.
- Advanced university degree in agronomy, biological sciences with specialization in PGRFA;
Doctoral degree would be asset
- Ten years of international experience in policy development and technical programmes related to PGRFA
- Proficiency in English and working knowledge of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)
