Mechanical Solutions Engineer – Data Centres
Location: Milan, Italy (Hybrid – 3 days per week in office)
Salary: Up to €80,000 + premio
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Solutions Engineer to join a fast-growing data centre organisation delivering mission-critical infrastructure projects across EMEA.
This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of mechanical engineering, data centre design and customer solutions , supporting the development of hyperscale and colocation facilities across Europe.
You will act as a key technical advisor, helping shape mechanical solutions from early concept design through to delivery, working closely with customers, engineering consultants, contractors and internal teams.
The Role
As a Mechanical Solutions Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across the mechanical aspects of data centre developments, ensuring solutions are scalable, efficient and aligned with customer requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead mechanical engineering input into data centre solutions from concept design through project delivery.
- Develop and review mechanical design strategies, including cooling architectures, HVAC systems and plant solutions.
- Support customer discussions by providing technical guidance on mechanical infrastructure requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering consultants, contractors and internal teams to deliver effective mechanical solutions.
- Review mechanical designs, specifications, calculations and technical documentation.
- Support technical due diligence activities for new data centre developments.
- Evaluate cooling strategies, energy efficiency opportunities and future-proofing requirements for high-density computing environments.
- Provide technical input across chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling infrastructure, heat rejection and liquid cooling solutions.
- Support value engineering activities, balancing technical performance, operational requirements and commercial considerations.
- Work with teams across EMEA to maintain consistent engineering standards.
About You
You will be an experienced mechanical engineer with a background in data centres, mission-critical infrastructure or complex industrial environments .
You will ideally have:
- Minimum 4 years’ experience working within data centres or mission-critical environments.
- Strong mechanical engineering background with experience across HVAC and cooling systems.
- Experience within data centre design, engineering consultancy, owner/operator or mission-critical delivery environments.
- Consultancy design experience is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers,
pumps and associated mechanical systems.
- Ability to engage confidently with customers, consultants and technical stakeholders.
- Experience reviewing and challenging mechanical designs and engineering solutions.
- Understanding of data centre resilience principles, including N+1 and 2N redundancy.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across multidisciplinary teams.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Requirements
- Fluent English is essential.
- Ability to work hybrid with travel to the Milan office three days per week .
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting hyperscale data centre customers.
- Exposure to liquid cooling and high-density computing environments.
- Experience working within engineering consultancies delivering mission-critical projects.
- Experience across European data centre markets.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
