Overview AML Compliance Officer (Hybrid) – Rome, Italy. This role supports Western Union Agents in implementing Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Terrorist Financing (CTF), and anti-fraud policies and procedures. The position involves evaluating how Agents incorporate compliance requirements and standards through activity analysis, compliance reviews, and training sessions. If needed, you will follow up with Agents to remediate identified findings and ensure gaps are closed.
Responsibilities Ensure that the Central Contact Point (CCP) maintains effective oversight on AML activities under its direct responsibility through efficient second-level controls.
Assist with the development of a detailed annual control monitoring and testing plan specific to CCP activities and processes.
Manage subpoenas from Italian Law Enforcement Authorities and liaise with local authorities to support audit activities at agents' locations, including analysis and handling of audit reports.
Provide training and support to Western Union Agents to implement an effective AML/CTF and anti-fraud compliance program.
Evaluate controls internally and with agent partners, supporting delivery of AML compliance programs and escalating risk matters in a timely manner.
Support department management with AML global project-related activities when needed.
Conduct research and analysis of complex issues related to money laundering and other potential financial crimes affecting Western Union services.
Review local and global policies and procedures to ensure consistency with AML compliance and legal requirements, with emphasis on documenting processes for AML Operations and regulatory use (procedures, desktop references, and job aids).
Explain AML/Compliance topics to third parties and assess compliance reports and communications.
Primary Requirements/Qualifications Bachelor's degree; Italian native speaker; fluency in English (oral and written).
5+ years of experience in AML Compliance, particularly with financial/banking intermediaries and/or consultancy firms.
Knowledge of main AML/CTF laws and regulations (e.g., Leg. Dec. ********, Bank of Italy provisions) and Money Services Business (MSB) regulatory requirements.
Ability to identify AML Compliance risks and escalate appropriately; analytical, proactive, detail-oriented, with problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience engaging with authorities, customers, and agents; ability to manage challenging situations.
Proficient computing skills with common office programs; ability to work in a multinational, multicultural environment with ethical and diplomatic behavior.
Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment and meet challenging deadlines; committed to continuous learning and team success.
Benefits and Work Model Hybrid work model: role categorized as Hybrid. Expectation to work from the office a minimum of three days a week.
