Join Schindler as a Mechanical Engineer – Interior Design (m/f/d)

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer for Interior Design to strengthen our R&D; Mechanical Engineering team.

In this role, you will act as a technical specialist responsible for the mechanical integration, precision and perceived quality of interior components , ensuring that all elements inside the elevator cabin are aligned, robust and compliant with quality expectations.

You will work on components such as panels, handrails, mirrors, ceilings, lighting frames, skirting and interfaces , ensuring consistent gaps, alignment and high‑quality execution from design to validation.

Location: Milan, Lombardy, Italy (Hybrid: 1 day/week working from home)

Your Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer – Interior Design, you will contribute to the development and validation of interior mechanical solutions.

Your responsibilities include:

- Providing technical solutions and design concepts for the integration of interior components, ensuring alignment, consistent gaps and premium fit & finish
- Designing interfaces between mechanical structures and interior elements (e.g. frames, brackets, fasteners, aesthetic components)
- Performing tolerance analysis and managing tolerance chains impacting alignment, spacing and perceived quality
- Supporting prototyping and physical validation activities, including on‑site verification of alignments, flatness, gaps, reflections and surface quality
- Ensuring design‑to‑cost considering manufacturability, installability and maintainability
- Creating 3D models, drawings and technical documentation in PDM systems and supporting release processes
- Driving coordination activities within your area of responsibility and collaborating with cross‑functional teams
- Providing technical input to support decision‑making across alternative engineering solutions

What You Bring (Required Qualifications)





- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in mechanical design of aesthetic components
- Experience in coordinating activities within assigned technical responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of tolerance analysis and its impact on alignment, gaps and perceived quality
- High attention to detail and accuracy in design execution
- Strong problem‑solving skills and result orientation
- Teamwork and collaboration mindset
- High level of self‑motivation, proactivity and adaptability
- English — Medium to Advanced

Qualifications That Will Strengthen Your Profile (Nice to Have)

- Master’s degree or specialization in Industrial Design or related fields
- Experience with prototyping and physical validation activities
- Knowledge of industrialization aspects of aesthetic components
- Familiarity with PDM systems and engineering documentation processes
