About the role
Design Engineer at Ashby combines design and engineering to shape the UI and UX of a powerful talent acquisition product used by hundreds of thousands of users.
Responsibilities
- Redesign the mobile web app by working with customers, wireframing flows, implementing the design system, and turning wireframes into a polished UI.
- Build a set of flexible, composable components in the design system that enable other engineers to create consistent setup wizards across the product.
- Help product engineers improve information hierarchy and scannability to assist recruiters parsing candidate assessments.
- Expand and enhance our in‑house design system for the vantaggi of the engineering and product teams.
- Consult on bespoke design work needed by product engineers.
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of industry experience as a designer or engineer (Junior); 2+ years continuous experience for Design Engineer (mid/senior); staff level required for professional contributions to a design system and feature delivery.
- Strong proficiency in both design (visual taste, UI/UX) and engineering (TypeScript, React, CSS). Backend proficiency is a plus.
- Experience designing products and shipping code to a wide user base.
- Ability to ship fast and iterate based on user feedback.
- Excellent visual design execution and taste.
- Comfort working on design systems and delivering complete design + code solutions.
Technology Stack
TypeScript (frontend & backend), React, GraphQL API, Node.js, Postgres, Redis.
