Job Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Finance / Accounting
Reports To: Accounting Manager / Controller
Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of complex accounting duties including the preparation of financial statements, maintenance of general ledger accounts, and execution of month-end close procedures. This role ensures the accuracy of financial data, complies with GAAP standards, and provides strategic financial analysis to support business decisions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- General Ledger & Month-End Close:
- Manage the full cycle of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare and post complex journal entries, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, bank statements, and intercompany transactions.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare detailed monthly financial statements (P&L;, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) for management review.
- Analyze variances between actual results and budgets/forecasts.
- Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and support external auditors during interim and year-end audits.
- Compliance & Controls:
- Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and company policies.
- Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Assist with tax filings (sales tax, 1099s, property tax) and coordinate with external tax partners.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify inefficiencies in accounting processes and recommend/implement system improvements.
- Document accounting policies and procedures.
- Team Leadership (Optional/Depending on structure):
- Mentor and review the work of Staff Accountants or Junior Accounting personnel.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CPA track preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, Macros).
- Experience with major ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) is required.
- Experience with financial reporting software (e.g., Hyperion, Adaptive) is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary based on experience ($70,000 - $95,000+ depending on location/market).
