Core Responsibilities

- Providing Technical Support: This is the primary duty. You'll be the first point of contact for employees or clients experiencing IT issues, providing support via phone, email, chat, or in-person . This involves troubleshooting hardware (like desktops, laptops, and printers), software, and network connectivity problems .
- System Setup and Maintenance: You'll be responsible for the setup, configuration, and maintenance of computer systems and equipment . This includes installing and updating software, deploying security patches, and performing routine system checks to ensure everything is running optimally .
- Managing User Accounts: A key part of the job is managing user access, which includes setting up new user accounts, handling password resets, and managing permissions, often through tools like Active Directory or Azure AD .
- Documenting and Escalating Issues: You'll be expected to meticulously document every support request, the steps taken to resolve it, and the final outcome using a ticketing system . When a problem is too complex to solve,



you'll escalate it to senior engineers or vendors .
- Supporting Onboarding and Training: You may assist in preparing equipment for new hires and providing basic training to users on software and hardware best practices .

Key Skills & Qualifications

- Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of computer hardware, operating systems (especially Windows and macOS, and sometimes Linux), networking concepts (like TCP/IP, DNS, and VPNs), and common software like Microsoft 365 is essential .
- Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: The ability to logically diagnose and resolve a wide range of technical problems is the core of the role .
- Communication & Customer Service: You must be able to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users with patience and empathy. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must .
- Education & Experience: While requirements vary, many employers prefer a degree in IT or a related field. However, relevant experience and certifications are often equally valued, and some roles may only require a high school diploma with proven technical training .
- Valuable Certifications: Industry-recognized certifications like CompTIA A+ and Network+ can significantly boost your credentials, demonstrating a foundational level of expertise to employers .
