As an
Expert Data & AI Scientist, you will be part of Eni's
Digital Information Technologies
function and a key figure within the Data & AI Center of Excellence. You will operate at the intersection of business strategy and next-generation artificial intelligence technologies (Foundation Models, GenAI, agent systems), leading the design, development, and deployment of high-value AI solutions.
Key activities:
Translate business objectives into AI use cases prioritized for impact, feasibility, risk, and ROI
Design solutions by choosing the most suitable methodology, approaches and technologies
Define success metrics and end-to-end evaluation frameworks by defining metrics and objectives
Build agentic systems and Generative AI applications by integrating modern methodologies and emerging approaches, implementing guardrails and safety mechanisms throughout the solution lifecycle, and collaborate with engineering teams for production release.
Define lifecycle management strategies for models and prompts: retraining, A/B testing, rollback, version management of third-party foundation models
Ensure compliance with the EU AI Act by supporting compliance assessments and collaborating with Compliance, Legal and DPO and producing appropriate technical documentation
Present results to diverse stakeholders (C-level, business, technical) with effective storytelling, data visualization, and the ability to manage expectations about what AI can and cannot do
Support the development of junior and mid-level data scientists, define best practices and technical standards for the CoE. Actively participate in the company's Data & AI community through knowledge sharing, contributions to Mediums and technical blogs, conference participation,



and contributing to the company's positioning on AI topics.
Required characteristics:
Master's degree in STEM disciplines: Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science; a PhD in the field will be considered positively
At least 3 years of experience in Data Scientist / ML Engineer / AI Engineer roles, with at least 1 year of experience on Generative AI / LLM solutions in production
Track record of AI projects taken end-to-end from discovery to deployment, with business impact measurement
Proficiency in Python and the scientific ecosystem (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn)
Solid theoretical and practical knowledge of supervised and unsupervised algorithms, ensemble methods, time series, and deep learning
Expertise in statistics and knowledge of experimental methods: inference, A/B testing, causal inference, design of experiments, methodologies required to evaluate GenAI systems and NLP processes through the construction of metrics and benchmarks
Advanced SQL knowledge, experience working with structured and unstructured data, vector stores, data engineering foundations
Practical experience in consuming commercial and open-weight models and in realizing practical applications using Context Engineering and RAG techniques
Knowledge of MLOps methodology and use of supporting tools




Experience developing AI models and applications on at least one major cloud (AWS / Azure / GCP) using managed AI services (Bedrock, Azure ML/AI Foundry, Vertex AI).

We offer a gross annual salary between €50,000 and €70,000.

In the presence of particularly relevant professional experience and technical and transversal skills, the Company may evaluate an offer with an improved classification/RAL level.
