We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher for a 2‑year position focused on ocean and sea‑ice modelling using unstructured‑grid ocean models. We are now embarking on a new chapter of our journey that will further boost CMCC’s global position in climate change research…Together! /p h3ROLE /h3 pThe postdoctoral researcher will report to the team leader and contribute to the development, validation, and assessment of numerical methods for a global unstructured‑mesh ocean general circulation model. The research activities will focus on key numerical components of ocean modelling, with particular attention to the accuracy, stability, and computational efficiency of the numerical methods developed. /p h3RESPONSIBILITIES /h3 ul liContributing to the design and implementation of scale‑dependent processes, numerical schemes, parameterisations, and computational workflows for global ocean modelling applications. /li liDeveloping, configuring, and running global ocean simulations using unstructured‑grid modelling approaches. /li liTesting and evaluating model performance across different spatial resolutions and dynamical regimes. /li liAnalysing model outputs to investigate large‑scale and multiscale ocean dynamics, including ocean circulation, mesoscale and submesoscale processes, air‑sea interactions, and ocean variability. /li liSupporting model validation through comparisons with observations, reanalysis products, and other numerical simulations. /li liWorking with high‑performance computing platforms for large‑scale numerical simulations and data processing. /li liContributing to scientific publications, technical documentation, project deliverables, and presentations at national and international conferences and meetings. /li /ul h3REQUIREMENTS /h3 pbRequired qualifications /b /p ul liPhD or equivalent experience in Physical Oceanography, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related disciplines, with a background in numerical methods and modelling. /li liExperience in the development of numerical methods applied to geophysical fluid dynamics problems. /li liExperience in the development and/or application of ocean circulation models, preferably using unstructured meshes. /li liAdvanced programming skills in both compiled (e.g. Fortran) and interpreted (e.g. Python) languages,



as well as solid experience with scientific and visualization libraries (e.g. xarray, pandas, Plotly, Matplotlib). /li liKnowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and scripting languages (e.g. *nix shell). /li liKnowledge of parallel programming and high‑performance computing (HPC) architectures. /li /ul pbPreferred qualifications /b /p ul liAt least two recommendation letters. /li liAbility to work effectively in a collaborative research environment, with a proactive and collegial attitude, and a strong commitment to open knowledge sharing and the advancement of ocean science. /li /ul h3DURATION, COMPENSATION BENEFITS /h3 ul liPlease note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally. /li liContract and gross annual salary will be based on qualifications and work experience. /li liWelfare package, for minimum 12 months contract. /li liFlexible working time as per internal policies. /li liSupport during the immigration process, if needed. /li liThe researcher will be based in Bologna CMCC Office. /li /ul h3PROTECTED CATEGORY /h3 pBelonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.
