PHP Backend Team Leader

We are Smartpricing, and we support small and medium-sized accommodation providers with solutions to help them fight back against the huge hotel chains. We started in 2020 by providing these companies with a dynamic pricing manager which can update room prices 100 times per day, and increase revenue by 30%. We were named one of Italy’s top start-ups in 2023, and are the fastest growing B2B SaaS company in the accommodation space in both revenue and number of clients. Today we are working with over 3000 companies in over 17 countries, and steadily growing. Yet, this is only the start of our journey.
As we head into the latter half of 2024, we are looking to launch a suite of new products and focus on internationalizing our reach further. We aim to work with 5000 SMB clients by the end of this year, and aim to keep our 100% growth rate up well into next year. This means we have a very exciting time ahead of us, and require to work with some of the best people the tech industry has.
Our technology team is building a platform of solutions that will help accommodation providers optimise the way they run their business. We are investing a lot in R&D; with the intention to double the amount of products we host on our platform by the end of the year, and as such are expanding our engineering team.
We are looking for a proven and experienced PHP Backend Team Lead to join us on our exciting journey. You will be dedicated to one of our product teams, working hands-on on architectural design, estimations and implementation. You will also be working closely as part of a cross functional team and will be the main interface with the engineering lead in planning and managing. Lastly, you will provide strong people leadership to a team of engineers, providing performance reviews,
supporting them with technical topics and helping them develop their career.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing hands on support: working on architecture design, estimations, and implementations with test coverage.
- People Management: being the local tech leader for a team of engineers. Perform 1:1 performance reviews and help in their career growth.
- Collaborating cross-functionally: working in scrum with a cross functional team, with a PM, QA engineer and designer and being the interface between your team and the engineering lead on all topics related to management and planning
- Proven experience as a PHP Backend Developer in a start-up or scale-up environment
- Experience as a people manager, or a strong desire to become a people manager
- In depth knowledge of PHP (Laravel)
- Knowledge of Docker and k8s
- Exposure to CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, Circle CI)
- Knowledge of databases such as Postgres and Cassandra
- Experience with Kafka and distributed applications (microservices)
