Mechanical & Thermal Engineer – Vacuum Pumps
In this role you will contribute to the design, development, verification, and validation of dry scroll and rotary vane vacuum pumps within Agilent’s Vacuum Technologies R&D; team. You will apply structural analysis, fluids and heat transfer, and experimental validation to optimize product performance and reliability. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to advance new products and sustain existing ones, shaping solutions for demanding vacuum applications. This position offers hands-on problem solving and meaningful impact on product quality and innovation.

- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for scroll and rotary vane vacuum pumps
- Perform structural analyses using FEA to assess strength, stiffness, fatigue life, and reliability
- Support fluid dynamic and thermal analyses to evaluate flow, heat transfer, and performance
- Plan, execute, and analyze experimental validation activities to correlate simulations with tests
- Develop and conduct tests to verify structural, fluid dynamic, and thermal performance
- Support noise and vibration investigations through data acquisition and analysis
- Develop test plans, analyze results, and generate technical reports and recommendations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and drive product improvements
- Contribute to continuous improvement of simulation methodologies, testing processes, and product performance
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to field and manufacturing issues
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
- Typically 4+ years of relevant experience in mechanical product development, analysis, or validation engineering
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design, structural analysis, and FEA
- Proficiency with CAD software and engineering simulation tools; experience with ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Fluent, and ANSYS CFX is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of fluid dynamics and heat transfer principles

- Experience with experimental testing and validation of mechanical systems
- Experience with noise and vibration data acquisition and analysis
- Familiarity with test instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition systems
- Ability to interpret test data and correlate experimental results with simulation models
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and international engineering environment
