As Lead Backend Engineer in Moneyfarm’s Partners Engineering team, you own the architecture and delivery of the B2B backend that powers institutional partnerships. You will design complex integrations with partner banks and internal services, while guiding a team of backend engineers toward robust, scalable solutions. You translate business and regulatory needs into reliable platforms, shaping the API strategy and ensuring secure, high-quality delivery. You’ll work closely with product, business, and partners to balance risk, speed, and long-term quality. This role offers impact at scale in a fast-growing fintech with a strong client and partner focus.

Own the technical architecture and system design for the Partners backend platform
Lead design and implementation of complex integrations with partner banks, third-party providers, and internal services
Act as the primary technical lead for backend initiatives and strategic decisions
Define and drive API strategy for partner-facing services including contract design, versioning, authentication, and documentation
Collaborate with Product, Business, and partner stakeholders to assess feasibility and risks
Coordinate with the Engineering Manager to scope work and ensure predictable delivery
Mentor backend engineers through code reviews and design guidance
Contribute to engineering standards and patterns for the broader organization
Participate in cross-team architectural discussions to ensure platform consistency
Monitor system stability and performance, proposing improvements
7+ years of professional software engineering with a strong backend focus
Deep expertise in Java or Go (willingness to work across the stack)
Experience with agentic AI tools to accelerate development and generate specs
Product engineering mindset using AI to move from problem space to implementation
Experience designing and integrating distributed systems and microservices
Knowledge of architecture patterns: fault tolerance, availability, scalability, security, data quality
Experience with AWS (ECS/EKS, RDS/Aurora) and CI/CD pipelines
Track record leading projects end-to-end and delivering reliably
Experience in regulated environments is a plus
Familiarity with B2B integration patterns (SSO, partner API gateways, batch processing, data reconciliation)
Effective communication across functions
