Mechanical & Thermal Engineer – Vacuum Pumps In this role you will contribute to the design, development, verification, and validation of dry scroll and rotary vane vacuum pumps within Agilent’s Vacuum Technologies R&D; team. You will apply structural analysis, fluids and heat transfer, and experimental validation to optimize product performance and reliability. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to advance new products and sustain existing ones, shaping solutions for demanding vacuum applications. This position offers hands-on problem solving and meaningful impact on product quality and innovation.
Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for scroll and rotary vane vacuum pumps
Perform structural analyses using FEA to assess strength, stiffness, fatigue life, and reliability
Support fluid dynamic and thermal analyses to evaluate flow, heat transfer, and performance
Plan, execute, and analyze experimental validation activities to correlate simulations with tests
Develop and conduct tests to verify structural, fluid dynamic, and thermal performance
Support noise and vibration investigations through data acquisition and analysis
Develop test plans, analyze results, and generate technical reports and recommendations
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and drive product improvements
Contribute to continuous improvement of simulation methodologies,
testing processes, and product performance
Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to field and manufacturing issues
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
Typically 4+ years of relevant experience in mechanical product development, analysis, or validation engineering
Strong knowledge of mechanical design, structural analysis, and FEA
Proficiency with CAD software and engineering simulation tools; experience with ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Fluent, and ANSYS CFX is strongly preferred
Knowledge of fluid dynamics and heat transfer principles
Experience with experimental testing and validation of mechanical systems
Experience with noise and vibration data acquisition and analysis
Familiarity with test instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition systems
Ability to interpret test data and correlate experimental results with simulation models
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and international engineering environment
