The JV supports JRC in accelerating decommissioning and waste management activities through provision of technical and programme support services, including: /pulliProject and programme management /liliLicensing /liliRadioactive waste management /liliRadiation protection /liliDecommissioning and nuclear engineering /liliWorksite management and safety /liliNon-nuclear engineering /liliFacility supervision and quality assurance /li /ulh3Job Purpose /h3pProvide technical expertise for the management of radioactive waste arising from decommissioning activities at JRC facilities.



Support the development and implementation of waste management strategies in compliance with Italian, EU, and IAEA regulations and standards. /ph3Key Responsibilities /h3ulliWaste Management Planning – Develop and implement radioactive waste management strategies. Support waste minimisation and waste hierarchy initiatives. Prepare waste treatment, conditioning, packaging, transport, and disposal plans. Coordinate interfaces between decommissioning and waste management activities. /liliWaste Characterisation – Define waste characterization programmes. Assess radiological and chemical inventories. Review sampling and analysis methodologies, and non-destructive testing requirements. Review assay and analysis results. Classify waste according to local regulations. /liliRegulatory Compliance – Ensure compliance with: IAEA Safety Standards, Euratom requirements, Italian nuclear regulations, Environmental legislation. Support preparation of licensing and regulatory submissions. Interface with regulatory authorities and stakeholders. /liliTechnical Support – Review contractor deliverables and technical studies. Support design and operation of waste storage facilities. Monitor waste treatment and conditioning activities. Provide technical recommendations to project management teams. /li /ulh3Requirements /h3ulliEssential:



Master's degree in Nuclear / Environmental Engineering / Waste Management / Physics or related scientific discipline. /liliSignificant experience in radioactive waste management. /liliExperience supporting nuclear decommissioning projects. /liliKnowledge of waste characterization, treatment, conditioning, storage, and disposal. /liliExperience working in regulated nuclear environments. /liliStrong team collaboration, stakeholder management and communication skills. /liliGood analytical thinking and problem solving skills required. /li /ulh3Desirable /h3ulliExperience with EU funded or international nuclear projects. /liliExperience at research reactors, fuel cycle facilities, or legacy nuclear sites. /liliRegulatory engagement experience. /li /ulh3Our Culture /h3pOur values are built on a strong foundation of safety, integrity, and respect for every individual.
