JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW

05 ago - Milano
Ospedale San Raffaele

IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy, is looking for a Junior Post-Doc to join the Regulation of Iron Metabolism Unit led by Dr. Antonella Nai at the Division of Genetics and Cell Biology. (https://research.hsr.it/en/divisions/genetics-and-cell-biology/regulation-of-iron-metabolism.html). The Unit is mainly interested in dissecting the complex mechanism/s that control systemic iron regulation both in physiologic and in pathologic conditions. The latter include genetic forms of Hereditary Hemochromatosis and ineffective erythropoiesis as Thalassemias, acquired forms of anemia (as Anemia of Inflammation, Chronic Kidney Disease and Malaria infection) and metabolic disorders (as Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, NAFLD).

We recently proved that the inactivation of Transferrin Receptor 2 (TFR2) promotes erythropoiesis and might represent a promising therapeutic opportunity for congenital and acquired hypoproliferative anemias and thalassemia. For the follow-up of this project, we are seeking for an enthusiastic and motivated junior research fellow to work on the identification of novel strategies to pharmacologically inactivate TFR2 in erythroid cells.

Main responsibilities:
Lead the research project with curiosity and creativity under the supervision of the PI
Carry on in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro studies
Implement novel experimental procedures and protocols

The candidate we are looking for has the following skills:
MSc in Biotechnology, Biology or related disciplines
Experience with cellular and molecular biology
Ability to work independently as part of a team
Solution-oriented attitude and good communication skills in spoken and written English
Previous experience in the hematology field will represent a favorable asset

What we offer:
Type of contract: Collaboration (Co.Co.Co) - Salary will be commensurate to research experience
Duration: 1 year (renewable for up to 3 years)
Place of work: IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, Via Olgettina, number 60 - Milan (Italy)
