Overview
In this role you will help build the Kong AI Gateway, enabling secure governance of AI & LLM-based innovation at scale.
You will work with the engineering team to implement core features like multi-LLM routing, semantic caching, and related routing/proxying capabilities.
The role involves building, debugging, and optimizing highly scalable, distributed systems, and collaborating with a remote team.
You will contribute to documentation and cross-functional work that shapes Kong's AI-enabled API platform.
Responsibilities and Benefits
Build and maintain API management software for AI/LLMs and underlying stack
Implement new features including proxying, load balancing, and database support for Kong AI Gateway
Troubleshoot bugs, tune performance, and perform low-level optimizations




Bridge Kong with third?party deployment platforms and tooling
Handle additional tasks as assigned by manager
Qualifications
3+ years of server-side programming experience
Hands?on experience with Golang or Rust
Experience building and debugging highly scalable, distributed, reliable, and resilient applications
Strong Linux systems troubleshooting and profiling skills
Experience with distributed systems and Linux networking stack (L7/L4 APIs)
Comfortable working with a remotely distributed teamStrong ownership mindset and excellent written/verbal communication (documentation)
Familiarity with AI/LLM concepts and applications development
