Our approach is founded on purposeful, impactful work, leveraging technology as a force for good. /p pLearn more about our company: /p h3Senior Deep Learning Scientist – Rome /h3 pWe are looking for a Senior Deep Learning Scientist to work in our office in Rome. Pi School has just been awarded a grant on DVPS, a 29M€, 4‑year collaborative research project starting in July 2025. DVPS develops the science of multimodal foundation models and deploys them on problems in Earth observation, language and cardiology. The project is endowed with computing resources matching its ambition, estimated to run on 30M GPU‑hours provided by EuroHPC on major Exascale and Petascale compute infrastructure in Europe. All research outcomes of DVPS, such as trained models, datasets, and evaluation benchmarks, will be open‑sourced on HuggingFace. /p h3Responsibilities /h3 ul liWork with data,



compute and algorithms /li liDesign deep learning multimodal neural architectures /li liDesign experiments, implement them in code, run them on large (GPU on HPC) compute, and run evaluations /li liMonitor and benchmark the state of the art /li liGuide more junior team members such as PhD students and interns /li liCoordinate with partners on the research roadmap /li liAdapt the project's pace to rapid scientific development in the field /li liOrganize publications and open‑sourcing efforts /li /ul h3Requirements /h3 ul liCompleted PhD or 4 years of industry research experience in a relevant field of deep learning, machine learning, or applied domains (preferably language, clinical medicine, robotics, vision, audio) /li liExperience guiding junior researchers, defining a research project and conducting experiments /li liAbility to design and run experiments methodically, analyse results, and iterate quickly /li liStrong communication skills and proficiency in English /li liExperience documenting technical work and research findings /li /ul h3Technical Skills /h3 ul liExcellent programming skills in Python /li liProficiency in deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or Tensorflow) /li liExperience in Linux/Unix environments /li liHands‑on experience with transformer architectures and the HuggingFace ecosystem /li liExperience training and fine‑tuning language models using libraries like Axolotl, Unsloth, or similar /li liFamiliarity with at least one modality deeply (language, vision, or audio)



/li liAbility to translate AI research papers into practical implementations /li liExperience using version control (Git) and experiment tracking tools (e.g. MLflow) /li liHands‑on experience running GPU experiments (HPC or cloud: AWS, GCP, RunPod, Lambda Labs) /li /ul h3Bonus Points /h3 ul liStrong in GPU training and inference optimisation /li liPolyglot /li liOpen‑source contributions /li liPublished at tier‑1 ML/AI conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, CVPR, ICCV /li /ul h3Our Office /h3 pPi School is hosted at Pi Campus, a working environment immersed in nature. Six luxury villas in Rome (Italy) have been converted into functional offices to foster talent growth. Pi Campus is also a venture firm created by Translated to reinvest part of its profits into promising AI startups. /p h3Compensation and Benefits /h3 pBased on a standard level of experience, the offered salary typically ranges between €45,000.00 and €65,000.00. The actual package depends on factors such as location, scope of responsibilities, and performance. Compensation generally grows quickly as experience leads to greater contributions.
