Experteer Overview

In this Senior Executive role, you will drive innovation within ABB Smart Power’s Emerging Technologies, collaborating with Global Application Specialists, Technology Advisors and academia to identify breakthrough ideas and shape future technology roadmaps. You’ll translate trends into concrete architectures and concepts, lead technical workshops, and assess feasibility for the portfolio. This is a hands‑on, agile, cross‑functional role that influences strategy and may involve international travel. You’ll help ABB stay ahead by turning research into impactful solutions.

Responsibilities

- Build and maintain relationships with universities, research centers, startups, and incubators to source breakthrough ideas
- Support technology roadmaps through feasibility assessments aligned with 3–5 year trends
- Develop reference architectures and practical system concepts from emerging technologies
- Design and run technical workshops with internal teams and external partners
- Conduct feasibility studies and define proofs-of-concept for Smart Power portfolios
- Perform competitive benchmarking and gap analyses to strengthen capabilities
- Act as gate assessor for Corporate Research Center projects




- Prepare technical documentation and innovation briefs for stakeholders and leadership
- Navigate matrix organizations to influence cross‑functional teams
- Collaborate with R&D; Engineers, Technology Advisors, and Application Engineers in a multidisciplinary environment
- Support scouting of megatrends by analyzing publications and patents for potential impact
- Travel internationally up to 20–30%

Responsabilità

- 5+ years in industrial R&D;, ideally in global, cross‑functional settings
- Degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Strong communication in English
- Experience with academia and research collaborations is advantageous
- Knowledge of energy transition challenges and industrial decarbonization trends
- Comfort with agile, dynamic, and international teams
- Problem‑solving mindset and strong written/verbal communication
- Familiarity with cross‑functional stakeholder management and partnerships
- Interest in emerging technologies and innovation strategies
- Willingness to travel internationally up to 30%
