ph3Summary /h3 pThis position is located at NAS Sigonella, Aquatics Section, Fitness Branch, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department. The primary purpose of this position is to act as pool lifeguard and swimming instructor. /p h3Duties /h3 pIncumbent performs work within the swimming program including instruction in various swimming skills and styles and basic diving for various age groups. /p pEnsures that swimmers observe all water safety rules. /p pPerforms rescue work and when necessary renders emergency first aid until such time as a qualified doctor is present. /p pCompletes appropriate accident reports. /p pIncumbent is responsible for the safety of all swimmers by ensuring everyone is accounted for. Checks identification and ensures that only authorized patrons utilize the facility. /p pPerforms necessary maintenance work required for sanitation and cleanliness of the pool and pool area. /p pEnsures that all paperwork/course records are completed and turned into Red Cross promptly after course completion. /p pTeaches classes by using appropriate equipment and is responsible for its proper storage. /p pPerforms other related duties as assigned. /p h3Requirements /h3 pConditions of employment /p ulliMinimum age is 18 years old. /liliApplicants must provide proof of current certification as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or equivalent, Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR (Attach copies). /liliMust satisfactorily complete a background investigation and pass a pre-employment physical examination. /liliWork schedule is subject to change and may include working early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and rotating shifts. /liliWork is performed indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to sunburn and eye irritation due to chlorinated water. /liliPosition requires sustained sitting and a constant vigilance to ensure maximum security of personnel in and around the swimming pool. /liliMale candidates born after December 31, 1959,



and at least 18 years of age, are required to certify that they have registered with the Selective Service System (Attach proof of registration). /liliCivilian candidates must be in possession of No-Fee government passport, Italian mission visa, Sponsor's Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Orders or Command-sponsorship authorization, and Sojourner's permit or application letter. /liliMilitary personnel, if selected, must provide PCS Orders and written authorization from their command to work during off-duty hours. /li /ul h3Qualifications /h3 pbSix (6) months of general experience /bin any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position band six (6) months of specialized experience OR /bbsuccessful completion of two (2) years of study above high school that included at least 12 /b bsemester hours in courses related to recreation. /b /p pbSpecialized experience /b is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of this position and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. /p pQualified candidates will be ranked by the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) to determine order of referral: /p ulliKnowledge of various swimming skills and styles. /liliAbility to instruct others. /liliSkill in providing assistance in emergency situations. /liliAbility to exercise control over a group of people.



/li /ul h3Education /h3 pIf you wish to use education as a substitution for experience, or a combination of education and experience, attach a copy of college transcripts, certificates or other acceptable evidence when applying in order to receive credit. /p pTranscripts from foreign colleges must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency in order to be considered. Applicants are responsible to obtain and submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency which is a private U.S. organization. Credential evaluations are not free and applicants are responsible for the cost of the selected service. /p h3Additional information /h3 pExecutive Order 12564 requires a Federal workplace free of illegal drugs.
