Climate Risk and Agrometeorologist Specialist

In this role you will provide technical support for climate services and climate risk management within FAO’s Environment Team. You will help assess climate risks in agrifood systems and support policy development and project formulation. You will translate complex climate data into actionable guidance for FAO offices and member states, enabling improved adaptation and risk-informed decision making. The role offers opportunities to work across multidisciplinary teams and contribute to FAO’s climate and environmental priorities on a global scale. This position combines technical analysis with capacity building and stakeholder engagement to advance resilient food systems.

- Prepare technical documents on hydro-meteorological and climate impact assessments to support adaptation projects and policy development
- Analyze climate, social, economic, and environmental data to characterize climate impacts in agriculture and agrifood systems
- Support development and implementation of climate risk assessment tools and methodologies
- Support multi-hazard agricultural climate services and improve access to weather monitoring, forecasting, and early warning services




- Transfer risk knowledge (tools, datasets, methodologies) to FAO country and regional offices and Member States
- Participate in relevant meetings and technical trainings
- Join multidisciplinary teams to promote climate risk management across FAO’s work areas
- Provide technical support to FAO's climate services initiatives as required
- Perform other related duties as needed
- Advanced university degree in agrometeorology, meteorology, climate science, agriculture, hydrology, crop science, soil science, animal science, forestry, fisheries, environmental sciences, physical geography, remote sensing, statistics, data science or related field (for consultants)
- OR
- University degree in the same fields (for PSAs)
- Minimum 1 year (CAT C), 5 years (CAT B), or 10 years (CAT A) relevant experience in climate impact assessment and climate services
- Working knowledge of English (FAO Core Competencies)
