About the client
Our client is a confidential leading international power cable contractor and manufacturer delivering major onshore power cable installation projects across Germany. As part of Germany's grid expansion programme, the company is executing large-scale high voltage and extra high voltage cable installation scopes along the German Corridors, requiring experienced site supervision teams to oversee civil works, cable laying, and jointing operations across multiple active construction sites.
Project scope
The assignment covers onshore power cable installation and jointing activities on one of Germany's major grid corridor projects. The Site Supervisor works across construction sites along the German Corridors, reporting directly to the Site Manager and acting as the primary field-level authority for day-to-day supervision of cable laying, civil works, and cable jointing operations. The role requires full availability for extended periods on site in Germany and regular mobility between active site locations.
The scope covers the full installation sequence: excavation, cable pulling, jointing, backfilling, and cable protection - with particular focus on jointing quality oversight and subcontractor coordination.
Role overview
To act as the primary field supervisor on site - overseeing daily cable installation, civil works, and cable jointing activities, ensuring all operations are executed safely, on schedule, and in strict compliance with approved drawings, method statements, quality standards, and HSE requirements - and providing the Site Manager with detailed,
timely reporting on all site progress and issues.
Reporting line: You will report directly to the Site Manager and act as the on-site interface between civil works contractors, cable laying subcontractors, and specialised jointing teams.
Key responsibilities
Direct site supervision
- Oversee daily onshore cable installation activities - ensuring subcontractors and teams execute works in accordance with approved drawings, method statements, and project schedules
- Supervise the full cable installation sequence: excavation, cable pulling, jointing, backfilling, and cable protection operations
- Manage and coordinate small teams and subcontractors effectively in a fast-paced construction environment
Jointing oversight
- Monitor and supervise the activities of cable jointers - ensuring high-quality workmanship, cleanliness, and strict adherence to cable jointing procedures
- Identify and escalate any quality or technical deviations in jointing activities before they impact the project
Reporting & documentation
- Act as the primary on-site eyes and ears for the Site Manager - providing detailed daily progress reports covering all activities, potential bottlenecks, delays, and technical issues
- Verify and maintain on-site records: material tracking, daily logs, and as-built data as directed by the management team
Coordination & interface
- Assist the Site Manager in coordinating daily activities between civil works contractors, cable laying subcontractors, and specialised jointing teams
- Facilitate local communication and coordination with contractors, authorities, and site personnel
HSE compliance
- Enforce site safety rules and environmental regulations in the field
- Ensure all personnel use proper PPE and follow safe work practices at all times
- Report any HSE incidents or unsafe conditions immediately to the Site Manager
Key deliverables
- Daily site progress reports delivered accurately and on time to the Site Manager, covering all activities, issues, and deviations
- All cable installation and jointing operations supervised to the required quality standard and in full compliance with approved procedures
- On-site records, daily logs, material tracking, and as-built data maintained accurately throughout the project
- HSE compliance enforced across all personnel and subcontractors on site at all times
Requirements
Education
- Technical degree or qualification in civil, electrical, or related xrdbqlu engineering discipline - or equivalent demonstrated site supervision experience
Experience
Must-have:
- Solid hands-on field experience in civil works and onshore cable installation site supervision
- Proven ability to supervise subcontractors and coordinate multi-discipline teams on active construction sites
- Experience maintaining daily site logs and communicating technical updates clearly to management
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, method statements, and execution plans
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with High Voltage (HV) or Extra High Voltage (EHV) cable installation - considered a strong plus
- Familiarity with cable jointing procedures and quality requirements
- Previous experience on German grid corridor or onshore transmission cable projects
Technical skills
- Strong understanding of onshore civil works, cable laying, jointing, backfilling, and cable protection operations
- Ability to read and apply technical drawings, method statements, and project specifications
- HSE knowledge applicable to active onshore construction sites
Soft skills
- Proactive and solution-oriented mindset - able to identify and resolve field issues independently
- Strong authority and leadership on site with small teams and subcontractors
- Rigorous and detail-oriented approach to reporting and documentation
- Fully mobile - available for extended periods on site across Germany - mandatory
