Atomiette
Atomiette publishes essays on philosophy, science, and the questions that don't fit neatly into either. We're not here to explain things. We're here to make people feel smarter for having read us.
The writing is one half. The other half is everything around it, how it looks, how it moves, how it shows up in someone's feed at 11pm and makes them stop scrolling. That's the half we're hiring for.
Why this role matters Atomiette isn't just essays. It's an aesthetic, a feeling, a world someone recognizes before they've read a word, closer to how Nike sells the athlete or Apple sells the object than how a publication normally sells an article. That world is one of the most important things we're building.
This isn't a job in the usual sense. Think of it closer to joining a startup at the ground floor than stepping into a traditional role. What you put in is roughly what you get out. Greater involvement means greater influence over how this actually turns out, and if the team works hard and fits together, there's real long-term upside.
What you'd work on
- Short-form video editing for Reels and TikTok, including pacing, captions, and hooks that hold in the first two seconds.
- Social graphics and templates across Instagram and TikTok, built inside our existing visual system.
- Design work beyond social, including the website and whatever digital experiences we launch next.
- Pitching your own content concepts on a regular basis, including hooks, formats, and post ideas, alongside executing ones handed to you.
- Applying brand identity consistently across everything you touch, including logo usage, color,
and typography, so Atomiette looks like one cohesive brand everywhere it shows up.
What you bring
- A portfolio with your best work
- .Working fluency in a graphic design software (Canva, Figma, etc.), plus a short-form video editor (Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut)
- .Demonstrated ability to work inside a visual system someone else set, matching an existing typeface logic, palette, and tone across many pieces, not just producing one-off designs that look good alone
- .Some sense of web/UI design, even informally. You don't need to code, but you should have opinions about how a page should look and feel
- .Comfort proposing ideas and taking direction in the same week. You'll co-own how things look, alongside the founder, not run it solo
- .Some exposure to social and marketing strategy, including content calendars, platform-specific pacing, and what a hook actually needs to do in the first two seconds
- .Genuine interest in Atomiette's values (curiosity, ambition, authenticity). If the ideas we're built around don't interest you, the design work won't either, and it'll show
. What this actually is Unpaid, for now. This is a founding role, not a paid position, and the return on it is what you build and what it becomes, not a paycheck today. Hours are flexible, but the more time and effort you put in, the more you shape and the more you stand to gain if this works. Shared ownership of how Atomieitte looks and moves, working with the founding team rather than in isolation. A seat on a small team building something from close to zero. Stay curious .
