Position Details

POSITION: High School Assistant Principal

LOCATION: Milan High School (200 Big Red Drive, Milan, MI 48160)

STARTING DATE: August 2026

Preferred Candidate Profile Milan Area Schools seeks a collaborative, student-centered leader who demonstrates the following qualities:

Responsibilities

- Instructional Leadership and Continuous Improvement
- Partner with the principal and staff to advance a clear, shared vision for high-quality teaching and learning.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of instructional programs, curriculum,



assessment, and professional learning.
- Help lead the school’s continuous improvement and MTSS processes in alignment with district priorities
- Use academic, behavioral, attendance, perception, and implementation data to establish goals, monitor progress, identify inequities, and adjust supports.
- Strengthen Tier 1 academic, behavioral, and social-emotional practices and support the development of effective intervention systems.
- Participate actively in the Building Leadership Team and District MTSS and Continuous Improvement Team and help monitor the school’s building-specific goal.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide staff with meaningful feedback, coaching, and professional learning under the direction of the principal.
- School Culture, Student Support, and Community Engagement
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment for students and staff.
- Coordinate fair, consistent, culturally responsive, and restorative implementation of the student code of conduct.
- Build relationships with students and promote student voice, belonging, leadership, and engagement.
- Communicate proactively with families and collaborate with community organizations and other partners to support students.
- Coordinate student behavior, attendance, and support processes in collaboration with special education, counseling, social work, intervention, and other student-services staff.
- Foster a culture of exceptional service, respect, and shared responsibility throughout the school community.

- Staff and Leadership Development
- Work collaboratively with the principal and administrative team and assume building leadership responsibilities when the principal is unavailable.
- Supervise, evaluate, coach,



and support certified and non-certified staff in accordance with district procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Contribute to effective teams, shared decision-making, staff leadership development, and a positive professional culture.
- Assist the principal with staffing, hiring, onboarding, supervision, and staff development.
- Participate actively in district leadership, problem-solving, planning, and decision-making.
- High School Programming and Operations
- Support day-to-day school operations, including student supervision, scheduling, facilities, safety procedures, activities, athletics, and assigned budgets or resources.
- Support student progress toward graduation and college, career, and community readiness, including CTE, advanced coursework, intervention, and postsecondary learning opportunities.
- Coordinate school safety and emergency preparedness practices in collaboration with district personnel and community partners.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, including special education requirements; board policies; administrative regulations; and employee agreements.
- Carry out other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position and as assigned by the principal, superintendent, or assistant superintendent.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

- Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field
- Current Michigan Administrative Certification
- Current Michigan Teacher Certification
- At least three years of successful teaching experience preferred
- High school teaching or administrative experience preferred
