Role Overview
HCLTech is hiring a Cost Engineer – Metal Structures to support cost engineering activities for automotive seat components, with a strong focus on steel/aluminum stamping, welding, manufacturing processes, and should-cost analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop should-cost calculations for automotive components using bottom-up costing methodologies.
- Support Design-to-Cost (DTC) activities during vehicle development programs.
- Analyze variable costs, tooling costs, and manufacturing feasibility for new and modified components.
- Provide technical cost insights to support sourcing strategies and supplier negotiations.
- Conduct gap analysis of supplier quotations and cost breakdowns.
- Evaluate engineering changes and identify cost drivers for both variable and tooling costs.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives through benchmarking, process optimization, and standardization.
- Collaborate with engineering, purchasing, suppliers, and global cost engineering teams.
- Visit suppliers to assess manufacturing processes and identify best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience in manufacturing, production, quality, process engineering, costing, or cost engineering.
- Strong expertise in steel/aluminum stamping and welding processes.
- Knowledge of Progressive, Transfer, and Tandem Press operations.
- Understanding of welding line industrialization, spot welding, and welding seam design.
- Experience supporting supplier negotiations with cost analysis.
- Automotive manufacturing industry experience is mandatory.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
