Where passion meets opportunity Your Purpose Here at Explora Journeys we are looking for an Engine Superintendent, reporting to the Technical Services Manager. You will ensure that the vessels' propulsion, power generation and all Technical Auxiliary systems remain safe, reliable, efficient, and compliant, directly supporting Explora Journeys' luxury guest experience and operational performance. This role will be based from our Genoa office in Italy. Your Impact Maximise machinery availability and reliability by planning and overseeing maintenance of diesel generators, boilers, auxiliary machinery, and technical systems. Reduce unplanned downtime through effective preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. Support vessel safety by ensuring critical machinery and equipment are maintained to the highest standards. Improve operational efficiency by monitoring performance, identifying technical improvements, and optimising maintenance costs. Control technical budgets and ensure maintenance expenditures deliver value while maintaining quality and compliance. Provide technical leadership to onboard engineering teams, helping resolve complex technical issues. Ensure regulatory compliance with Flag State, Classification Society, IMO, environmental, and company requirements. Drive sustainability and environmental performance by improving fuel efficiency, emissions control, and equipment effectiveness. Co-ordinates any Dry-Dock activities which arise from machinery maintenance programs.
Reviews and updates the maintenance schedules based on Ship survey findings and results. Prepare, review, and approve technical specifications for new building, vessel's refit and repair, ensuring that solutions are tested and verified before implementation by attending FAT (Factory Acceptance test). Participate to crisis on call roster when technical support needs shall arise. Your Journey so far Sailed up to 1st Engineer onboard cruise ships or 2nd Engineer with shorebased experience would also be considered. Cruise ship experince is essential. Problem-solving and collaborative teamwork mindset is essential. Ability to manage workload and priorities. Ability to effectively plan, organise, delegate and control the work process; Your Essentials Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent; The ability to travel to the ships and shipyards when required. Excellent knowledge of the English language is required; additional languages are a plus. The exsiting right to live and work in Italy. This opportunity offers a gross annual salary range of €70,000 - €75,000, depending on experience and relevant expertise, alongside a competitive package of additional benefits.
