About the Role
As an Assistant Commercial Manager in our Milan team, you will support the commercial management and cost consultancy delivery of complex, high-value data centre projects across Italy and Europe. Working alongside senior commercial and project leaders, you will be involved in all stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility and procurement through to construction, commissioning and close-out.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop your commercial, contractual and client-facing skills within the rapidly expanding data centre sector while working on some of Europe’s most significant digital infrastructure developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of commercial and cost management services across multiple data centre projects.
- Assist with the preparation and review of cost plans, estimates, budgets and benchmarking exercises.
- Support procurement activities, including tender preparation, tender analysis and recommendation reports.
- Assist in the administration of contracts, including NEC and JCT forms where applicable.
- Review contractor applications, variations, change orders and commercial submissions.
- Prepare regular cost reports, forecasts, cashflow reports and financial updates for project stakeholders.
- Support project teams in monitoring commercial risk and identifying opportunities for cost optimisation.
- Assist with value engineering exercises and life cycle cost analysis.
- Contribute to budget management, forecasting and financial control processes.
- Participate in client, consultant and contractor meetings, providing commercial support and reporting.
- Support the preparation of fee proposals, resource planning and project performance reporting.
- Mentor and assist junior team members where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate project records and ensure compliance with internal governance procedures.
What You Bring
- Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Construction, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 3-7 years’ experience in quantity surveying, cost consultancy, commercial management or a related discipline.
- Professional Accreditation: MRICS, AssocRICS, or working towards chartered status preferred.
- Good understanding of construction procurement routes and contract administration principles.
- Familiarity with NEC, JCT or similar forms of contract.
- Experience working on complex construction, infrastructure, industrial, MEP or mission-critical projects is advantageous.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Understanding of commercial risk, change management and cost control processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other cost management tools.
