Offer Description
This research program (code FIS-2 focuses on multiscale brain modeling for applications in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) in patients with Parkinson's disease. The activity aims to develop next-generation computational frameworks capable of reproducing and predicting the neural effects of DBS protocols with high biological realism.
The work involves modeling neuronal activity using spiking neural networks and, subsequently, mean-field models of the main brain regions involved in DBS, with particular attention to the characterization of stimulation-induced dynamics. The project also includes the reconstruction of brain microstructure using advanced magnetic resonance imaging techniques and structural image processing pipelines. These elements will support realistic subject-specific DBS simulations and lay the groundwork for clinically relevant applications.
The public call with detailed attendance and selection rules (Art 4 and 6) can be found at: selections are open to candidates, Italian or foreigner, in possession, on the date of the deadline for submitting applications for the admission to the selection, of a research doctorate (PhD) or equivalent qualification obtained abroad, or, for the sectors concerned,
a medical specialization qualification. The educational qualification has to concern the research theme.
Further specific assessable qualifications (see Art. 1 par. 1 Call for applications):
PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline
Experience in neuroimaging data analysis, particularly structural
MRI and structural connectivity reconstruction
Experience with machine learning algorithms, preferably applied to
MRI data
Experience with multiscale modeling approaches and/or large-scale brain simulations
Experience working with clinical datasets and within interdisciplinary research teams
Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and scientific computing
Familiarity with cerebellar disorders, brain stimulation techniques
(e.g., DBS) and the Virtual Brain simulator
