Blue Oak Consulting
The Project Control Assistant role supports the execution of financial advisory projects, ensuring that timelines and resource allocations align with client objectives. For our current engagement with an Italian financial services firm, you will track the progress of complex valuation and pricing workstreams to maintain operational discipline.
About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks.
Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L; complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped.
We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense.
Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role This is a fully remote position designed for someone who enjoys the mechanics of how a project moves from initial data gathering to a final recommendation. You will work closely with our principals to monitor the health of our engagements, specifically focusing on our work with the Italian financial services firm.
Your job is to make sure the data we receive is organized, the hours spent match the complexity of the task,
and the milestones we set for the client are met without compromising our analytical standards. It is a role for someone who values accuracy over speed and wants to see how financial consulting works from the inside.
What You Will Be Doing
- Updating project timelines and tracking completion rates for specific workstreams related to the Italian financial services firm.
- Organizing large sets of financial data and documentation provided by the client to ensure the team has easy access to relevant information.
- Monitoring budget consumption and resource allocation to prevent scope creep or inefficient use of time.
- Assisting in the preparation of status reports that communicate project health and potential risks to senior leadership.
- Verifying that all project deliverables meet our internal quality checklists before they are presented to the client.
- Coordinating communication between different workstreams to ensure that assumptions used in one area are consistent with findings in another.
- Flagging discrepancies in data or delays in the schedule as soon as they appear so the team can adjust quickly.
- Documenting meeting outcomes and following up on action items to keep the project moving forward.
What You Bring
- A degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field with a focus on quantitative analysis.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to build simple trackers and organize structured data.
- A naturally skeptical mindset and the habit of double checking figures before considering a task finished.
- The ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining clear lines of communication with the team.
- Strong organizational skills and an interest in how project management supports financial decision making.
- Comfort with reading and interpreting basic financial statements or portfolio reports.
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with a global team.
- Attention to detail that allows you to spot inconsistencies in a spreadsheet or a timeline.
What We Offer
- A permanent, tempo pieno position with a competitive salary that reflects the market for entry level advisory roles.
- The flexibility of a fully remote work arrangement, allowing you to manage your own environment.
- Direct access to senior principals who have extensive experience in capital allocation and pricing economics.
- Involvement in work for a major Italian financial services firm, providing a window into the complexities of the industry.
- A working culture that values honest feedback and intellectual rigor over corporate hierarchy.
- The opportunity to learn how to manage complex projects without the typical distractions of a large firm.
- Regular training on our specific methodology for interrogating financial assumptions and identifying value leaks.
At Blue Oak Consulting, we do not produce reports that sit on a shelf. We provide the clarity needed to make difficult decisions, and that requires a project structure that is as disciplined as our analysis. As a Project Control Assistant, you are the person who ensures that our process remains robust and that we deliver on our promises to the client. We value people who are curious about the logic behind the numbers and who take pride in the integrity of their work.
