Frontend Engineer Intern

Blue Oak Consulting

We are seeking a Frontend Engineer Intern to support our advisory team as we work through a complex engagement with a European infrastructure firm. This role is focused on building clear and reliable web interfaces that translate difficult financial datasets into actionable information for our clients.

About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks.

Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L; complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure.

We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism.

We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.

The Role In this internship, you will help us bridge the gap between financial analysis and client communication. Working in a fully remote capacity, you will build and maintain frontend tools that our principals use to present findings to our partner, a major European infrastructure firm.

We do not build flashy marketing sites: we build functional, data heavy applications where accuracy is more important than aesthetics.

You will spend your time thinking about how to display project timelines, debt structures, and capital expenditure models in a way that makes logical sense. Because we are a small firm, you will work closely with senior leadership and see how your technical contributions help clarify high stakes financial decisions.

What You Will Be Doing

- Building and updating interactive dashboards using modern JavaScript libraries such as React or Vue.
- Collaborating with financial analysts to understand how they interact with data and what visualizations they need.
- Creating clean, responsive interfaces that help clients understand the financial assumptions behind infrastructure projects.
- Writing simple, maintainable code and participating in remote code reviews with the team.
- Ensuring all frontend components are tested and function correctly across different browsers.
- Translating complex Excel based models into functional web components.
- Helping to maintain internal documentation for the tools and features you develop.
- Learning to manage data flow between the frontend and our internal data storage systems.

What You Bring

- A strong interest in web development and a working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Basic familiarity with a frontend framework like React, Vue, or Angular, perhaps through university coursework or personal coding projects.
- An analytical mindset: you enjoy looking at data and finding the most logical way to organize it.
- A commitment to accuracy:

you understand that a misplaced decimal point in a financial dashboard can have serious consequences.
- The ability to communicate clearly and ask questions when technical requirements are unclear.
- Comfort working in a fully remote environment, which requires self discipline and proactive updates.
- A willingness to learn the basics of financial modeling and economics to better understand the data you are visualizing.
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree program in a technical field like Computer Science or Information Systems.

What We Offer

- A fully remote work environment that provides flexibility and focuses on the quality of your output.
- The opportunity to work on projects for a major European infrastructure firm with real world financial stakes.
- Direct mentorship from principals who value technical clarity and financial discipline.
- A paid internship with a competitive rate for the current market and your level of experience.
- A culture that avoids corporate jargon and focuses on evidence, logic, and results.
- Practical experience building tools that are actually used by consultants and clients, not just theoretical exercises.
- A straightforward work environment where you can focus on solving technical problems without excessive bureaucracy.

At Blue Oak Consulting, we value professionals who are more interested in the underlying numbers than in corporate scripts. We believe that software should make complex information easier to digest, not harder. You will be joining a firm that prizes skepticism, honesty, and hard work. If you are someone who likes to understand how things work under the surface and you want to apply your coding skills to serious financial questions, you will find our approach rewarding. Your contributions will help us provide the clarity our clients need to make informed decisions about their capital and their future.
