Blue Oak Consulting
We are looking for a Business Analyst Intern to assist our team in evaluating commercial assumptions and capital allocation for an Italian financial services firm. In this role, you will help us verify the numbers behind high stakes decisions to ensure the underlying economics are sound and based on reality.
About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks.
Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L; complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure.
We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism.
We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role This is a fully remote position that requires a disciplined approach to data and financial logic. You will spend your time digging into the mechanics of how businesses make money and where those processes might be failing.
Because we work in small, senior led teams,
you will have the chance to see how principal consultants think about risk and value. We value direct communication and evidence based conclusions over polished presentations. You will be expected to work independently while remaining in close contact with the team through digital channels.
What You Will Be Doing
- Auditing financial models to find errors in logic or overly optimistic growth assumptions.
- Reviewing datasets from the Italian financial services client to identify patterns in portfolio performance.
- Drafting internal reports that summarize findings with a focus on clear, plain English and data evidence.
- Participating in team calls to discuss the validity of commercial assumptions and financial forecasts.
- Conducting secondary research on market pricing and competitor unit economics.
- Helping to build simple, sturdy tools in Excel that help clients visualize their capital allocation.
- Tracking the execution of recommendations to see how they perform in the real world.
- Organizing financial documentation to ensure all assumptions are properly sourced and cited.
What You Bring
- A university degree in progress or recently completed in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Comfort working with Excel,
including the ability to build and audit basic financial formulas.
- A skeptical mindset that questions why a number is there rather than just accepting it.
- The ability to write clearly and concisely without using corporate jargon.
- A high degree of self discipline to manage work effectively in a fully remote setting.
- Strong attention to detail and a refusal to ignore inconsistencies in data or reports.
- Willingness to learn from senior principals and receive direct feedback on your analytical work.
- A logical approach to problem solving that prioritizes facts over narrative.
What We Offer
- A fully remote working environment that provides flexibility and removes the need for commuting.
- Direct mentorship from senior principals who have deep experience in financial advisory.
- A flat structure where your analysis and observations are heard and valued.
- Practical experience working on high stakes projects for a major financial services firm.
- Training in financial modeling and the Blue Oak approach to commercial skepticism.
- Professional growth within a firm that values analytical truth over political convenience.
- The position is paid and the pay is attractive for an internship in this market.
At Blue Oak Consulting, we believe that the best advice comes from a place of independence. We do not take transaction fees, so we can be honest about the risks we see. This internship is about learning to see the world through a financial lens that prioritizes truth over comfort. You will be part of a team that cares about getting the answer right, even when the answer is unpopular. We look for people who are more interested in what the numbers say than in what the slides look like.
