Freelance Technical Manager – MEP
America’s Cup, Naples, Italy
August 2026 – January 2027 (Initial 6-Month Contract with Extension Potential)
Arena Group is seeking an experienced Technical MEP Manager to join our America’s Cup project team in Naples, Italy. Reporting directly to the Project Director, this position will play a critical role in the delivery of temporary and modular infrastructure supporting multiple international team bases, including offices, workshops, technical facilities, storage spaces and hospitality environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the complete MEP delivery lifecycle, from early planning and procurement through installation, testing, commissioning, operations and maintenance. This is a hands-on site-based role requiring strong technical expertise, supplier management capabilities and a thorough understanding of Italian MEP construction practices and regulations.
What you’ll do
- Lead all MEP activities from project initiation through to final handover and demobilisation.
- Review technical drawings, specifications and project requirements to prepare BOQs, budgets and procurement plans.
- Source, evaluate and manage Italian MEP suppliers, subcontractors and service providers.
- Negotiate supplier quotations and undertake commercial evaluations to ensure best value and project profitability.
- Coordinate and supervise installation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and associated building services across multiple project locations.
- Manage day-to-day site activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, on schedule and in accordance with approved designs.
- Coordinate utility applications,
temporary service connections and authority approvals with local providers and regulatory bodies.
- Liaise with project stakeholders, consultants, contractors, suppliers and client representatives throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project progress, costs, variations and commercial performance, providing regular reporting to the Project Director.
- Lead testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of all MEP systems prior to occupation and operational use.
- Ensure full compliance with Italian regulations, industry standards and health & safety requirements.
- Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance of all MEP installations throughout the operational period of the event.
- Support project close-out activities, including documentation, handover records and final accounts.
What we’re looking for
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years' experience in MEP construction, building services or project delivery environments.
- Proven experience managing MEP works from concept through construction, commissioning and operational support.
- Strong knowledge of Italian MEP suppliers, subcontractors, procurement processes and local construction practices.
- Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and driving delivery on fast-track projects.
- Strong understanding of LV electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire alarm and fire protection systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and construction documentation.
- Experience preparing BOQs, evaluating quotations and managing project budgets.
- Knowledge of Italian building regulations, permitting requirements and authority approvals.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. BIM coordination experience is advantageous.
- Strong planning, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent English required;
Italian language skillshighly desirable.
Highly Desirable (Not Essential)
- Experience delivering temporary structures, modular buildings, hospitality facilities or event infrastructure projects.
- Previous involvement in major sporting events, exhibitions, Formula 1, sailing events, large-scale hospitality projects or temporary venue construction.
- Existing supplier and subcontractor network within Italy, particularly Southern Italy.
- Experience working within international project teams and high-pressure delivery environments.
