At ORiS, we are building the technologies that will power the next generation of space missions. Through laser-based wireless power transmission, we aim to overcome the energy limitations of today’s satellites and enable longer, more capable, and more resilient operations in orbit.
We are looking for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to support the development of ORiS’s laser-based wireless power transmission systems for both defence and space applications.
Working closely with the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute to the mechanical development of LOONA as it evolves from an advanced prototype into a robust and deployable product, while also supporting the design and integration of the mechanical subsystems for ORiS’s inter-satellite WPT mission.
This is a hands-on engineering role covering the full development cycle, from early concepts and CAD design to manufacturing, assembly, testing, and system integration. You will collaborate with the Optical,
Electronics, Pointing, Thermal, and Systems Engineering teams to transform technical requirements into reliable mechanical solutions.
What You Will Do
- Support the Lead Mechanical Engineer in the design and development of mechanical systems for ORiS’s space and defence programmes.
- Contribute to the evolution of LOONA from prototype to product, improving its mechanical architecture, robustness, manufacturability, portability, and ease of assembly.
- Support the design of structures, mechanisms, optical mounts, enclosures, interfaces, and assemblies for the inter-satellite WPT mission.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, and mechanical documentation.
- Perform preliminary structural calculations, tolerance analyses, material selection, and mechanical sizing activities.
