Job Overview
We are seeking a Country Manager to lead Wise’s expansion and operations in Italy. The role involves defining market strategy, product localisation, regulatory compliance, and driving growth across the country.
Responsibilities
- Oversee local team and operations, defining market expansion and winning strategies for product localisation.
- Collate and execute on a vision that aligns product, finance, treasury and other global teams.
- Manage regulatory licences, registrations and compliance requirements, coordinating with central banking and expansion teams.
- Lead the Italian branch and act as Director/Legal representative, maintaining governance and regulatory relationships.
- Represent Wise in Italy at public relations, government relations, and product marketing functions, building brand awareness and partnerships.
- Own day‑to‑day operations and harmonise stakeholder relationships to ensure smooth execution.
- Drive commercial partnership discussions and create new opportunities within existing relationships.
- Address incidents, manage risk, and conduct root‑cause analysis on operational and product bottlenecks.
- Attend relevant committees and board meetings, providing local leadership.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience managing regulatory relationships and government bodies in a financial context.
- Deep understanding of local entity operations, compliance, and anti‑money‑laundering controls.
- Strong background in financial and payments systems, and knowledge of licensing frameworks in Italy.
- Business fluent in Italian and English, with strong communication skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and adapt quickly in a fast‑moving environment.
- Willingness to travel to other Wise offices as needed.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, able to “get hands dirty” and drive initiatives to completion.
