Essential responsibilities include: /p h3bKEY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES /b /h3 pScientific Research: /p ul liUndertake front-line research in the own field of expertise, identifying, developing and implementing research projects in that field /li liParticipate in the hiring of post-doctoral fellows /li liProvide guidance and mentoring to post-doctoral fellows, and guidance to any associates, visitors or fellows that collaborate on these research projects /li liReport on the results of the research at major international meetings /li /ul pEducation and Training: /p ul liTeach in the Diploma programme and supervise Diploma student thesis /li liProvide scientific supervision to and mentor M.Sc. and Ph.D. students /li liParticipate in the selection of the Diploma students and of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students as required by ICTP programmes. Teach in international programmes of the ICTP, held at ICTP and elsewhere /li /ul pScientific Organisation and Outreach:



/p ul liEstablish wide cooperation with scientists from developing countries and identify their scientific needs in areas related to own area of expertise and formulate appropriate recommendation for incorporation within ICTP programmes. /li liOrganize ICTP meetings, activities in the own field and organise ICTP external activities, predominantly in developing countries, in own field of research. /li liApply for and manage individual research grants. Participate in the programmes of ICTP Partner Institutes. /li /ul h3bCOMPETENCIES - Core (C) Managerial (M) /b /h3 ul liCommunication (C) /li liAccountability (C) /li liKnowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) /li liAdvanced University degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Physics or related discipline. /li /ul pbWORK EXPERIENCE /b /p ul liAt least 4 years of relevant professional experience in condensed matter and/or statistical physics or a related field, of which preferably at least 2 years at international level. /li liInternationally recognized research achievements in the physics of quantum many-body systems, quantum information processing, quantum technologies, or a related field. /li liExperience in the teaching and/or mentoring of undergraduate or postgraduate students. /li /ul h3Long Description /h3 pbSKILLS AND COMPETENCIES /b /p ul liProven ability to work in a team and to maintain effective working relationships in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. /li liExcellent analytical skills. Ability to collect, synthesize and analyse information from various sources. /li liAbility to communicate effectively on complex technical and scientific issues in English. /li liExperience in the design, implementation and management of scientific projects. /li liExperience in the development and coordination of scientific training programmes. /li /ul pbLANGUAGES /b /p ul liExcellent knowledge (spoken and written) of English. /li /ul h3bDESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS /b /h3 pbWORK EXPERIENCE /b /p ul liRelevant professional research experience acquired at international level, with particular attention to those devoted to developing countries. /li /ul h3Long Description /h3 pbLANGUAGES /b /p ul liKnowledge of another official UNESCO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).



/li /ul h3bBENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS /b /h3 pUNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc. /p pThe approximate annual starting salary for this po st is 90 666 EUR. /p pThe process may include pre-recorded video interviews and/or written assessments, interviews with a Panel, as well as reference checks.
