Beacon Education Services

A highly skilled, experienced educator and mentor is required to support the education, personal development and wider interests of two children aged 10 and 12 for a private family based in central Milan. The children attend an international school and are growing up in a dynamic, international environment. The family has an established household support team, and the mother divides her time between working from home and travelling for business.

The educator will work closely with the mother to help guide the children’s academic progress while encouraging curiosity, confidence, independence and a genuine enthusiasm for the world around them. They will be able to recognise and nurture each child’s individual strengths, interests and learning style. They will balance academic achievement with creativity, cultural awareness, emotional wellbeing and strong personal values.

We are looking for a highly experienced professional who is confident working independently and who will develop to become a trusted and valued part of the family’s long-term support network. They will be naturally engaging, emotionally intelligent and will genuinely enjoy helping children to learn and grow. Rather than taking a traditional instructional approach, they will inspire confidence, encourage independent thinking and lead through positive examples.

They must be organised, proactive and adaptable, with the ability to combine warmth and professionalism in equal measure. Above all, they will understand how to create an environment in which children feel supported, motivated and encouraged to reach their full potential. The main academic responsibilities will be to support their school work, ensuring that they are well prepared and are reaching their full potential.

Identification of any areas where additional support or enrichment would be beneficial, particularly in English and Mathematics is expected. The educator will design and deliver tailored learning opportunities and supplementary educational activities,

including trips and excursions during the weekends and school holidays. They will also be responsible for managing and coordinating all extracurricular commitments and activities with third parties.

The children’s exposure to literature, music, art, history, science, current affairs and different cultures to encourage their intellectual curiosity and lifelong love of learning is very important. The educator/mentor will be a key figure in this and will be expected to continually look for opportunities in these areas. When the family travels, either locally or internationally, the educator will be expected to accompany them to maintain their educational structure and to provide an enriched experience for the children.

They should research and organise visits to museums, galleries, theatres, exhibitions and other cultural events. It is essential to have the right to live and work in the EU.

Excellent

English and French are required; Italian would be an advantage. A full, clean EU driving licence is required. It will be required to drive the children on occasion, but not regularly to and from school.

HOURS AND HOLIDAYS This is a full-time position working with the students after school each weekday and at the weekends to fit in with the family plans. It is likely that during the week the educator will work from around 12 – 8pm, to include planning and preparation time. A break of two consecutive days off will be given each week, not necessarily at the weekend.

There will be 28 days of paid holiday per year, to be taken at times convenient to the client. ACCOMODATION AND TRAVEL Accommodation will be provided by the client, within reasonable travelling distance from the family home in central Milan. The educator will be expected to travel with the family as required for short trips during term time and for longer periods during the school holidays.

All costs and accommodation associated with travel will be covered by the client. As well as family travel, the educator will be encouraged to organise educational weekend experiences and cultural trips for the children, helping to further enrich their learning and personal development.
