ph3Summary /h3 pYou will serve as a ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the Engineering Department, N200, Combat Systems Division, N290 of FORWARD SHIP SUSTAINMENT NAPLES, Italy.
/p h3Duties /h3 pHelp /p ul liYou will provide technical assistance for urgent mission-degrading Casualty Reports (CASREPs) or similar problems affecting assigned equipment.
/li liYou will provide technical assistance on complex technical problems beyond the capability of forces afloat, intermediate maintenance activities, or repair activities to diagnose and correct.
/li liYou will perform functional checkout, grooming, adjustment, and test of repaired, new or modernized shipboard systems in a systems qualifications test environment (a majority of which is at sea).
/li liYou will provide authoritative technical engineering guidance to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) activities and port engineers in resolution of repair/overhaul or test/grooming problems beyond their level of in-house engineering expertise.
/li liYou will serve as team leader of organized teams (e.g. Assessments and Inspections) composed of at least five General Schedule technicians/contractor equivalent with responsibility for functional checkout, tests, and inspection of major systems.
/li liYou will participate in ordnance alterations (ORDALTs), ship alterations, and field changes (FCs) which include actual hands-on modification of components.

/p h3Specialized Experience Must Demonstrate The Following /h3 ul liProviding technical assistance for urgent mission-degrading Casualty Reports (CASREPs) or requests for technical assistance affecting assigned subsystems, without customary reference, and requiring direct communications with ships' officers.
/li liPerforming functional checkout, assessment, adjustment, and test of new or modernized shipboard systems in a systems qualifications test environment.
/li liParticipating in ordnance alterations (ORDALTs), ship alterations, and field changes which include modification of components.
/li liPerforming shipboard assessments to validate material and operational readiness of assigned system (e.g., AEGIS AN/SPY-RADAR systems and subsystems).

/p h3Physical Demands /h3 pApproximately 20 percent of the work is performed in an office setting.
The shipboard investigation phase of a task involves considerable walking, climbing and crawling in and around the equipment/system with marginal accessibility being a frequent problem.
Standing and walking for several hours at a time on hard steel decks also occurs regularly during ship visits.
Occasionally rapid results are required to meet operational schedules.
Work may demand rapid response under high pressure situations.
This will require a moderate degree of creativity and innovation, since new methods of technically sound alternatives may be necessary.
/p h3Work Environment /h3 pThe work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as: high electrical voltages; large rotating machinery element; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear powered ships; explosive, flammable or incendiary materials, turbines, condensers, etc.
; and entering enclosed spaces below the ship's water line (SONAR domes, tanks, etc.).
The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships while underway, at berths,
at anchor or at buoys within the harbor.
/p pOn numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft.
/p pHelicopter and aircraft (COD) flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea.
High line transfer from ship to ship may be occasionally required.
This position has been identified as one in which shift hours may be changed without three days advance notice and for periods of less than three weeks.
