Senior Researcher — EU Research Projects

Horizon Europe, AI Governance and Responsible AI

DEXAI – Artificial Ethics The role

DEXAI is looking for a Senior Researcher to work across our Horizon Europe research projects and contribute to the development of new proposals.

The role is research-oriented, with a focus on AI governance, trustworthy and responsible AI, socio-technical evaluation, AI risk management, and the societal impacts of advanced AI systems.

A substantial part of the work involves translating research questions into methodologies, scientific deliverables, reports, and peer-reviewed outputs. You will also contribute directly to the design and writing of new Horizon Europe proposals, from concept development to methodology, work-package design, impact, and implementation.

What you would do

You will

- lead or substantially contribute to research activities within Horizon Europe projects;
- design research methodologies, analytical frameworks, surveys, evaluation protocols, and case studies;
- write and coordinate scientific and technical deliverables;
- conduct literature reviews, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and policy or regulatory research;
- contribute to peer-reviewed publications and other scientific outputs;
- develop concepts and methodologies for new Horizon Europe proposals;
- write proposal sections including Excellence, methodology, work packages, tasks, deliverables, milestones, and Impact;
- work with academic, industrial, public-sector, and civil-society partners across international consortia.

What we need

Required

- At least 2 years of direct research experience on Horizon Europe projects. (if you don't meet this requirement, please see our second job posting for a Junior Researcher)
- Demonstrable experience producing scientific outputs, methodologies, or technical deliverables within Horizon Europe projects.

- Strong knowledge of the AI Act, GPAI Code of Practice, Responsible AI methodologies, AI policies and regulations around the globe, AI risk and impact assessment;
- A general understanding of technical aspects of AI systems, as for example robustness and data quality
- Direct experience contributing to Horizon Europe proposal writing.
- Minimum C1 English, C2 preferred.
- Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field, tipically computer science, philosophy, law, public policy, or equivalent research experience.

The Horizon Europe requirement is specific: experience acquired exclusively through other European or national funding programmes does not substitute for the required two years of Horizon Europe research experience.

We are interested in concrete evidence of contribution: deliverables, publications, methodologies, proposals, or work packages you have substantially worked on.

Relevant backgrounds

We welcome researchers from fields including AI governance and ethics, computer science, science and technology studies, philosophy of technology, social sciences, law and technology, economics, and public policy.

Interdisciplinary profiles combining strong research methods with technical, ethical, regulatory, or societal perspectives on AI are particularly relevant.

Useful, not required

Experience with any of the following is an advantage:

- AI and health ethics, including research on AI in healthcare, biomedical ethics, or responsible health technologies;

- A strong plus would constitute the knowledge of AI standards, both at ISO level and CEN-CENELEC level;
- stakeholder engagement and co-creation;
- Horizon Europe work-package or consortium coordination;
- quantitative or mixed-method research;
- successful Horizon Europe proposal development.

Working style

DEXAI works across research, policy, and applied AI governance. You should be comfortable taking ownership of a research question, selecting an appropriate methodology, producing publication-quality analysis, and translating that work into the structured requirements of Horizon Europe projects.

The position is remote and is designed as a ~70% part-time role. Full-time employment is not required, and different arrangements may be considered depending on profile and availability.
