We are looking for a researcher to join our Iceman research team!

What happens to human remains in the thousands of years between death and archaeological discovery?

Our new research project at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology aims to explore precisely this question – using bone fragments from the Iceman (Ötzi) .

The project “Recovering time lost: Bone Diagenesis in the Iceman’s Postmortem Journey from Death to Discovery” brings together forensic taphonomy, archaeology and natural sciences to investigate how bone changes over time and what these changes can tell us about the Iceman’s postmortem history.

For this exciting project, we are looking for a Scientific Collaborator to join our team in Bolzano.

? We welcome applicants with a four-year university degree or equivalent qualification in fields such as:

- Bioarchaeology / Anthropology
- Biomedical Sciences
- Conservation and Heritage Sciences
- Environmental Sciences
- Forensic Sciences
- Medical / Veterinary Sciences
- Natural Sciences

We are looking for someone with basic knowledge of chemistry, human anatomy, physiology and statistics , good communication and organisational skills, and a strong commitment to scientific integrity.

? Language requirements:

Italian or German (min. B2)



and English (min. B2)

Availability to travel is required.

? Start: 2 November 2026

⏳ 17-month fixed-term position

? Tempo pieno – 38 hours/week
