About the role
DNV’s Energy Markets Analytics Southern Europe (SE) team is offering an internship, looking for an ambitious, highly vocational and skilled student in Energy/Electrical Engineering with interest in energy markets and/or energy system modelling to support the activities of the Energy Markets Analytics SE team.
The tasks of the intern in Modeling will include:
- Assisting developing analytical tools, digital solutions, and advanced energy market models to forecast electricity prices, assess market trends, optimize energy assets, and improve the scalability, efficiency, and quality of the team's services.
- Contributing to the evolution of software architectures, data pipelines, and codebases to deliver robust, scalable, and maintainable solutions.

About you
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer/Software Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Electrical/Energy Engineer, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with experience developing production-grade software, analytical platforms, quantitative models, data pipelines, APIs, or other complex applications.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including Git, testing, debugging, code reviews, CI/CD, documentation, and collaborative development workflows.
- Experience with mathematical optimization (operations reseach), simulation, machine learning, or data science frameworks (e.g., Pyomo, Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-learn, or similar) is considered a plus.
- Interest in energy markets, power systems, renewable energy, battery storage, or the energy transition. Previous industry experience is an advantage but not required.
- Familiarity with energy system modelling such as PLEXOS, PyPSA, or similar platforms is considered a plus, but is not required.
- Proficiency in English; Italian and/or Spanish are an advantage.
- Curious, proactive, and eager to learn, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
