Senior Deep Learning Scientist – Rome
We are looking for a Senior Deep Learning Scientist to work in our office in Rome.
Pi School has just been awarded a grant on DVPS, a 29 M€, 4?year collaborative research project starting in July ****.
DVPS develops the science of multimodal foundation models and deploys them on problems in Earth observation, language and cardiology.
The project is endowed with computing resources matching its ambition, estimated to run on 30 M GPU?hours provided by Euro HPC on major Exascale and Petascale compute infrastructure in Europe.
All research outcomes of DVPS, such as trained models, datasets, and evaluation benchmarks, will be open?sourced on Hugging Face.
Responsibilities Work with data,



compute and algorithms Design deep learning multimodal neural architectures Design experiments, implement them in code, run them on large (GPU on HPC) compute, and run evaluations Monitor and benchmark the state of the art Guide more junior team members such as Ph D students and interns Coordinate with partners on the research roadmap Adapt the project's pace to rapid scientific development in the field Organize publications and open?sourcing efforts Requirements Completed Ph D or 4 years of industry research experience in a relevant field of deep learning, machine learning, or applied domains (preferably language, clinical medicine, robotics, vision, audio) Experience guiding junior researchers, defining a research project and conducting experiments Ability to design and run experiments methodically, analyse results, and iterate quickly Strong communication skills and proficiency in English Experience documenting technical work and research findings Technical Skills Excellent programming skills in Python Proficiency in deep learning frameworks (Py Torch or Tensorflow) Experience in Linux/Unix environments Hands?on experience with transformer architectures and the Hugging Face ecosystem Experience training and fine?tuning language models using libraries like Axolotl, Unsloth, or similar Familiarity with at least one modality deeply (language, vision, or audio)



Ability to translate AI research papers into practical implementations Experience using version control (Git) and experiment tracking tools (e.g. MLflow) Hands?on experience running GPU experiments (HPC or cloud: AWS, GCP, Run Pod, Lambda Labs) Premio Points Strong in GPU training and inference optimisation Polyglot Open?source contributions Published at tier?1 ML/AI conferences such as Neur IPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, CVPR, ICCV Our Office

Compensation and Benefits
Based on a standard level of experience, the offered salary typically ranges between €45,****** and €65,******.
The actual package depends on factors such as location, scope of responsibilities, and performance.
Compensation generally grows quickly as experience leads to greater contributions.
Exceptionally strong candidates may be offered salaries above this range to acknowledge their higher potential impact.
