EU Projects Communications Specialist (Freelancer Role, Analyst or Advisor Level)

We are seeking a proactive and creative B2B Communications Specialist, with a focus on EU funded projects, to join our team. Thanks to our experience in Dissemination, Communication, and Exploitation (DCE) activities, we help maximize the impact of prominent research and innovation projects across Europe and beyond. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning and implementation of comprehensive Dissemination Communications (DC) strategies for active EU-funded projects as well as support our company B2B services, including the BioInvestEurope startups visibility support service.
The candidate will act as the primary driver for ensuring project results are effectively disseminated to target audiences and communicated to the public. The candidate will collaborate closely with other members of the Magfi Marketing Team, including graphic designers, and social media specialists to deliver high-quality outputs. The candidate will also collaborate with the Magfi Technology Team, to ensure effective and precise scientific communications.
This role is communications-focused, and does not feature EU proposal writing, if not the extent that it appertains describing our own or our clients' DC activities within EU proposals. The person will report to the relevant member of the Magfi Compliance Team or to one of Magfi Directors, depending on the specific assignment being carried out at a given moment.
The collaboration format will be a client-supplier relation with the EU Projects Communications Specialist working as self-employed person (either currently working as such or able to become one) interested in supporting Magfi in the implementation of current B2G (EU-funded) innovation projects and/or B2B commercial projects.
Key Responsibilities
- DCE Planning & Implementation: Lead the planning and execution of Dissemination, Communication, and Exploitation (DCE) plans for active EU projects,
ensuring all activities align with Grant Agreement obligations and project milestones/KPIs;
- Strategy Execution: Translate DCE strategies into actionable communication campaigns, ensuring timely delivery of outputs within budget and scope;
- Content Production & Coordination: Draft and edit high-quality communication materials (press releases, newsletters, articles, reports, case studies) that translate complex technical findings into accessible content, including ahead planning of social media content/copies;
- Visual Design Coordination: Either produce visual content directly or collaborate closely with graphic design experts to ensure all materials meet high aesthetic and branding standards;
- Social Media Coordination: Either manage social media channels directly or work in tandem with social media experts to optimize engagement, manage editorial calendars, and drive community growth;
- Stakeholder Engagement: Actively liaise with project partners and external stakeholders to facilitate the communications and dissemination of results and identify potential communications red flags/risks, or opportunities for the project and the company;
- Impact Monitoring: Track and report to the relevant member of the Magfi Compliance Team on the reach and impact of communication activities, utilizing analytics to refine future DCE strategies, as well as drafting or collaborating to drafting relevant communications project deliverables and reports;
- Event Coordination: Organize and manage communication aspects of project events, workshops, and conferences, including media relations and on-site coverage;
- Exploitation Support:
Assist the Magfi Technology Team in identifying pathways for the commercial or societal exploitation of project results through targeted communication efforts.
- Perform business travels to visit clients' sites and/or sector events and/or consortium meetings on either medium- or short-notice as needed.
Requirements
- Education: Relevant Bachelor or Master in Communications, Marketing or a related fields;
- Experience: 1 to 5 (Analyst) or 5 to 10 (advisor) years of experience specifically in communications implementation within EU-funded research and innovation projects;
- DCE Expertise: Proven track record in planning and executing Dissemination, Communication, and Exploitation (DCE) plans in compliance with EU grant rules;
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (native or near-native level);
- Creative Design Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to produce visual assets OR a proven history of collaborating with graphic design teams to deliver polished visual outputs;
- Demonstrated ability to manage social media strategy OR a proven history of collaborating with social media specialists to amplify project visibility;
- Soft Skills: Proactive approach, creativity, strong analytical abilities, and the capacity to work in multicultural environments;
- Familiarity with or passion for sustainability related topics, with an acute interest in biotech, foodtech and cleantech, as well as bioeconomy and circular economy;
- International work experience, and extensive experience working in the English language.
